Woolworths and its US joint venture partner Lowe’s are opening their first home improvement store in Springfield Central, Ipswich.
Construction will commence on the site within a couple of months, with the store scheduled to open for business in the latter half of 2011. Approximately 130 full-time, part time and casual retail jobs will be created and over 370 total flow-on jobs.
The 12,500 square metre store will be built on the Orion Town Centre site at Springfield Central. It will feature both retail and trade areas as well as a garden centre and will offer a totally unique, family oriented shopping experience.
“Ipswich is a vibrant, growing region within Queensland with excellent local transport links and a commitment to investment and growth,” said Woolworths Home Improvement chief operating officer, Melinda Smith.
“In particular, the Orion Town Centre development is a really exciting and high quality project and will be the perfect location for us to deliver choice, range, value and competition to the local community.
“We are very excited about our store concept which will be very different to anything currently in the Australian marketplace. Together with our partner Lowe’s, we believe there is huge potential to help families realise the potential of their biggest asset – their homes,” said Smith.
