Coffee chain retailer Starbucks is expanding its mobile footprint in the US with its Starbucks Card Mobile app for Blackberry smartphones.

The Starbucks Card Mobile app has been designed allow customers to check their Starbucks Card balance, reload their Starbucks Card with any major credit card, pay for Starbuck purchases using the mobile payment feature and find their nearest Starbucks store.

“Expanding our mobile footprint gives our customers another way to connect with Starbucks on the go and transforms the way our customers see and use their Starbucks Card,” Brady Brewer, vice president Starbucks Card and Loyalty, said in a statement.

The mobile application builds on the success of the Starbucks Card program. It is expected that customers will load more than $1 billion dollars on Starbucks Cards this year. Today, nearly one in five transactions in US Starbucks stores are paid for with a Starbucks Card, according to the company.

“At this time, we are focused on introducing the Starbucks Card Mobile for BlackBerry app to our customers in the U.S. and have no future details to share at this time pertaining to other markets,” a Starbucks spokesperson told Retailbiz.
