Melbourne’s favourite boutique shopping destination, The Strand Melbourne, is calling on budding photographers and those with an eye for detail to participate in its inaugural ‘Colours of The Strand Melbourne’ photography competition, running from July to September.

Melburnians can snap their favourite shots inspired by The Strand Melbourne’s monthly hero colours of green, yellow and blue, for the chance to win a colourful collection of luxury fashion and accessories from the centre’s designer set each month.

From cityscapes to the Yarra River, iconic laneways and bustling traffic, the showcase celebrates The Strand Melbourne’s beloved hometown through a colourful lens that pays homage to the centre’s striking architecture and design.

The Strand Melbourne has recruited Melbourne street style fashion blogger and photographer, Jasmin Howell of Friend in Fashion, to help spread the word about the competition.

“I’ve built a career on capturing photos of the things I love and lust after, so it’s hugely exciting to be part of a creative campaign that asks fellow Melburnians to do the same,” Howell says.

“As well as being home to some of my favourite home-grown and international labels, The Strand Melbourne is an aesthetic icon of Melbourne’s CBD, known for its eye-catching façade that lights up the city with its colourful fins.

“I’ve been fortunate to travel the world with my blog and I always love coming home to Melbourne; this city is so well known for its appreciation of culture and the arts. The Colours of The Strand Melbourne photography competition is a fantastic opportunity for people to express their creativity and I can’t wait to see the shots.”

Award winning professional photographer Sean Fennessy is also on board to kick-start the showcase, capturing a colourful series of the competition’s prizing with his signature clean, graphic style, which will be on display in-centre throughout the competition period.

The Strand Melbourne general manager, Shane Brown, says the initiative will appeal to photography, arts and design students, as well as city shoppers and dwellers.

“‘Colours of the Strand Melbourne’ is a great way to get more people thinking about our new precinct which opened in July 2014 and is home to first-to-market international and local boutique stores,” Brown says.

“We hope the competition inspires people to express their creativity for a chance to win an amazing array of colourful products from some of our shops including Acne Studios, Feathers, Desigual and Gorman, to name a few.”

Shoppers will be able to see in-centre installations showcasing the competition’s monthly prizes, styled by Melbourne based multi-disciplinary creative, Gloss Creative.

The inspiration colour will change each month, kicking off with green in July, yellow in August and finishing with blue in September.
All photos submitted for entry will be housed in a digital gallery on The Strand Melbourne’s website.

All customers shopping at The Strand Melbourne from July to September are also eligible to enter a second competition, ‘Think in Colour’, for a chance to win $1,000 in The Strand Melbourne gift vouchers.
