The Institute of Store Planners (ISP) inducted three women into its Retail Design Legion of Honor at the recent ISP Awards Gala.
The inductees included Clodagh, president of Clodagh Design International, Joanne Newbold, president of Joanne Newbold Associates, and RoxAnna Sway, editor in chief of DDI Magazine–making 2007 “The Year of the Woman,” as declared by the Retail Design Legion of Honor. The Retail Design Legion of Honor is designed to recognise those giants of the industry whose lifetime contribution of professional design achievement has influenced and shaped retailing, store design and the design culture in general.
Clodagh is an award-winning internationally renowned designer known for her unique blending of modern technology, primitive materials and ancient techniques. With an emphasis on the inventive and sustainable use of materials, her work creates calm, low-maintenance environments characterized by unexpected design elements, innovative use of light and space, and incorporation of global influences. Her best-selling book, "Total Design," is a retrospective of her design work and philosophy and is in its third printing. Clodagh's awards include the Interior Design's Top 100 Interior Designers in America, being named one of the world's leading interior designers by Architectural Digest, and being inducted into the Interior Designer Hall of Fame, as well as into Hospitality Design's Platinum Circle.
Joanne Newbold, principal of J. Newbold Associates Inc., founded her own multidisciplined design studio in 1986, specializing in store planning, retail interiors, environmental graphics and retail identity. The design firm's imaginative designs have helped create play and shopping environments around the world, including interactive children's areas aboard a fleet of cruise ships and animated themed retail in Las Vegas and Orlando. Clients include Toys 'R' Us (New York flagship), Dylan's Candy Bar, FAO Schwarz and Celebrity Cruises.
RoxAnna Sway’s professional expertise encompasses product design, graphic design, interior design, visual merchandising, store design and strategic marketing. She has held executive positions in these disciplines with Rich’s Department Store, Atlanta, and Macy’s, New York, both divisions of Federated Department Stores; and Houston-based Oshman’s Sporting Goods.
