Metcash has acquired point-of-sale (POS) systems provider Scanning Systems Australia (SSA).

SSA provides advanced point of sale systems to independent retailers in the grocery, liquor, hardware, fuel and convenience sectors.

Metcash CEO Andrew Reitzer told RetailBiz that the company is committed in providing an innovative retail solution for independent retailers to remain competitive. .

“We are providing better service offering to independent retailers at the front and back of their operations,” he said.

The national grocery, liquor and hardware marketer and wholesaler said it intends to work with other back office software vendors in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) POS services market.

It also said it has no intention to making changes to the current day to day working arrangements in place with these vendors, as a result of this transaction.

While no details of deal has been disclosed, the transaction is subject to informal merger clearance by the ACCC.
