Caltex Star Mart was named as major retailer of the year for 2011 in Australia by the Australasian Association of Convenience Stores (AACS).

The AACS Award was held on 24 August and recognises the quality of the partnerships between retailers and suppliers and measure performance throughout the year, as judged by AACS supplier members.

Caltex also took at the retail store of the year (company operated) category and retail store of the year (franchised operated).

Caltex’s national manager retail, Leo Pucar, said it was an exceptional achievement to win in the three categorises.
 
“The past 12 months have been challenging for the industry, however Caltex Star Mart is leading the charge on customer service, in-store execution and innovative product offers which are keeping us ahead of the pack,” he said.

Additionally, Chris Centra, 7-Eleven category business analyst, was awarded the  Peter Jowett Industry Award. He was recognised for his insight and strong business plan with solid ideas to generate greater sales, community profile and profits for convenience stores in the midst of the challenging conditions currently faced by the Australian retail industry.

As the winner of this award, Centra will represent Australia in the Global Convenience Industry Achievement Awards at The NACS Show in Chicago which is held from 1-4, October 2011.

“It’s awards like these and support from convenience leaders such as 7-Eleven that enable individuals like myself and other colleagues in the industry to stand back and recognise the important work that is being done to ensure the convenience industry continues to prosper in Australia,” Centra said.
