The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) has predicted that shoppers will spend $6.97 billion during the two weeks of post-Christmas sales from Boxing Day through to early January, which is only 3 per cent up from last year of $6.77 billion.
ARA executive director Russell Zimmerman said retailers will continue to slash already discounted prices, which will be passed onto consumers this post-Christmas.
“With retailers having to move stock left over from a sluggish Christmas, from a consumer point of view, Boxing Day and beyond could host some of the best post-Christmas sales in years,” he said.
“Retailers are only hoping there is still some buzz around the December / January sales period for shoppers who have become accustomed to sales all year-round.
