Tjeerd Jegen will soon leave his current position as CEO of Tesco Malaysia to join Woolworths as director of Australian supermarkets & petrol.

This comes following Greg Foran’s recent announcement of stepping down from the position to “pursue other interests”.

Grant O’Brien, Woolworths deputy CEO, said the company welcomes Tjeerd to the team and believes his experience in grocery retailing will continue the success of Woolworths.

“Woolworths has tremendous depth of talent within its existing ranks and a key part of Tjeerd’s role will be to further develop the capabilities of our people at all levels. Whilst an external appointment might be viewed as an unusual one for Woolworths, Tjeerd is an exceptional retailer capable of adding significant value,” he said.

“His breadth of experience, particularly in managing both small and large format stores as well as developing innovative private label growth strategies will help our supermarkets business meet the changing needs of our customers.”

Jegen has held store operations, commercial, marketing and general management roles with international retailers, including the Metro Group, Romanian Hypermarket and Tesco, across seven countries.
