Metcash has appointed John Mac Laren to the position of general manager of Metcash food and grocery Queensland/Northern NSW.

He will take over from Peter Love who is moving to a national sales and merchandise role in Sydney.

CEO Andrew Reitzer said Mac Laren’s appointment comes at a critical time when the company recently announced a restructure of two joint ventures in Queensland.

“While John’s first task will be to assist in settling down the new Cornett’s and Walters’ store structures, his primary focus will be to grow the already strong IGA presence in Queensland,” he said.

Mac Laren has had over 30 years experience in the retail sector. Aside from his previous role as general manager merchandise and marketing, he has also held the position of general manager IGA>D NSW and has served as general manager Queensland.

“I look forward to John continuing the very fine work done by his predecessor Peter Love. Peter was recognised by the former Premier of Queensland for the work he did for the people of Queensland during the floods and cyclone last year. Peter ensured IGA Distribution got food and supplies through to many isolated communities,” Reitzer said.

Mac Laren will take over the Queensland role on 1 May 2012.
