Adelaide retailer Statewide Appliance Spares has not only turned 30, but survived local industry transformation to grow to be a leading national spare parts distributor employing 25 people to service its expanding South Australian customer base.
According to Statewide General Manager David Stretton, the business has the largest team of appliance spares experts in the whole of Australia.
“We offer next day delivery right around Australia, and with our toll free phone number and online shop, we are truly running a national business from our base in Adelaide,” Stretton said.
Such a reach is a long way from the company’s inauspicious beginnings in 1985 when most people had locally made Simpson, Kelvinator, Westinghouse and Hoover appliances.
“We still stock those brands, but have expanded our range to include LG, Fisher & Paykel, Panasonic, Samsung, Electrolux and Miele and most other popular brands.
“Most sales were over the counter, withonly a few customers ringing through their orders and fax machines just becoming popular. Almost all customers were in metropolitan Adelaide,” Stretton said.
“Today, around 80% of all orders for spare parts these days are received from customers interstate.
We offer next day delivery right around Australia, and with our toll free phone numbers and online shop, we are truly running a national business from our base in Adelaide,” Stretton added.
Recently, Statewide has added a commercial laundry and cleaning equipment distribution business to its activities and is the exclusive South Australian agent for major commercial laundry suppliers Speed Queen.
They also distribute a wide range of commercial floor cleaning equipment from quality brands such as Tennant, Nilfisk, PacVac, Polivac, and Cleanstar.
“Our service division provides professional repair and maintenance services for this commercial equipment in addition to the repair of domestic vacuum cleaners, clothes dryers and microwaves.”
“For a family business that was started 30 years ago, we are very proud to be competing on the national stage and looking forward to many more years of helping customers,” Stretton concluded.
