Westfield has partnered with Uber to install designated pick-up and drop-off zones at centres across Australia, beginning with pilot locations in New South Wales and Western Australia.
The bays, located at Bondi Junction and Warringah Mall in Sydney and Whitford City in WA, are marked with black signage and the Uber logo.
The Uber app has been updated so a pin automatically drops in the designated area, ensuring customers and drivers know where to meet.
Westfield Corporation announced a similar partnership with Uber in the United States last year. The company said designated Uber stations will open at all of its 33 centres across the country.
It also introduced Westfield’s first permanent Uber Lounge, at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles. The lounge area includes a range of amenities such as free drinks, newspapers and magazines, and charging stations. Users can also collect their day’s shopping at the Uber Lounge before jumping into a car.
US CEO William Hecht said the partnership leverages modern technology in a way that makes it more convenient than ever for customers to travel to and from Westfield centres.
“Westfield’s shopping centres already have an incredible combination of fashion, food, services and amenities, all in one place with digital enhancements such as product search, directional and frictionless parking,” he said.
“Now we are thrilled to be able to partner with Uber to leverage modern technology in a way that makes it more convenient that ever to travel to and from any Westfield destination.”
