Bunnings’ website generates more than 13 million sessions per month but, until recently, the home improvement giant did not offer online shopping.
This changed in the first half of 2018 with the rollout of an online stock search function and online ordering and delivery for more than 20,000 ‘special order’ products across kitchen, bathroom, lighting and outdoor categories.
Bunnings managing director Michael Schneider told investors at Wesfarmers’ annual strategy day last week that the next step is to expand its e-commerce offer to include large items like sheds, mature trees and bulk orders.
He said that while there is not currently huge demand for a full click and collect offer “there’s no doubt in my mind that’s where we’ll end up”.
Bunnings is expanding its range of services, including a partnership with hipages to offer toilet installation.
As reported by the AFR, Schneider also told investors that expanding Bunning’s range of services was a significant growth opportunity for the business.
“Finding meaningful ways to connect customers to relevant services is something the team is now working on,” he said.
The retailer’s latest play in this space is a partnership with hipages to offer customers toilet installation for a fixed price of $275.
To use the service, customers purchase a toilet at Bunnings and add a hipages installation voucher at the checkout. Using their unique code, the customer then organises a time with a hipages plumber to install the suite.
Schneider said the partnership offers customers a complete and affordable solution.
“This is an exciting offer for Bunnings customers and local tradies across Australia, making it easier and more affordable for customers to update their bathroom and connect with local tradies to assist with those jobs that require a licensed tradesperson,” he said.
The service is now available at all Bunnings stores, following a four-week trial in 15 locations across Newcastle and the NSW Central Coast earlier in the year.
