Retail Strategy Group founding director, Angela Bonnefin says the local Balmain/Rozelle community’s needs were first and foremost in her design strategy for the retail precinct of Rozelle Village, the redevelopment of the former Balmain Leagues Club in Sydney’s inner west.

“The retail vision for Rozelle Village is to create a family-friendly, vibrant and conceptual lifestyle precinct,” she said.

“Rozelle Village is about community and connection and will be curated to suit the needs and lifestyles of the local residents. From freshly roasted coffee and pastries, through to nighttime wine bars and restaurants, the Village will feature a range of bespoke style specialty stores with a focus on independent, quality retail concepts and brands.

“It will also be anchored by a full-line supermarket – the first for the area, leagues club hospitality and entertainment, and the ground floor marketplace of casual dining, retail and fine-grain laneways.

“We have created a series of retail laneways, what we believe are the first for the inner west, accessing the precinct from Victoria Road and Darling Street that open to the most beautiful piazza with landscaped gardens and a place for locals to catch up.”

At over 2,000 square metres, the new Wests Ashfield Leagues Club will feature several bars, restaurant and dining spaces with terrace dining, gaming lounge and dedicated sport bar. There will be kids play areas and family-friendly theme throughout.

When completed in early 2026, Rozelle Village is planned to comprise 147 luxury residences including a mix of apartments built within three towers fronting Victoria Road. A public village square spanning 1,400 square metres will be at the heart of the development.

Construction is planned to commence later this year and apartments will launch to market later this year with significant demand expected in the site which has been closed to the community for more than 10 years.
