David Jones will refurbish its Melbourne CBD store at 310 Bourke Street as the department store prepares to put the menswear store across the mall at 299 Bourke Street on the market. Some of the funds from the sale will be used for the refurbishment project, which is scheduled to commence in January 2021 and be completed within 12 months.

The single-store flagship experience at 310 Bourke Street will be curated for Melburnians with a raft of premium luxury and lifestyle brands across a larger footprint.

The store was recently given a facelift with updates to the Beauty and Luxury Accessories hall, updated lifts and escalators, and new Little Bourke Street airwalks, entrances and façade.

The upcoming refurbishment coincides with the redevelopment of the David Jones Elizabeth Street flagship in Sydney nearing completion and is part of the department store’s retail optimisation strategy.

Ian Moir, CEO of David Jones’ parent company, Woolworths Holdings Limited said the sale of 299 Bourke Street allows the department store to deliver a more integrated retail experience to customers.

“We remain committed to enhancing the in-store experience right across our retail network. We look forward to commencing the sale process and creating a new future for David Jones Bourke Street,” he said.
