After more than two years of development, Gandel Group and Vicinity Centres will unveil the first phase of Chadstone’s $660 million redevelopment on 13 October.

This will see the opening of new international flagships, over 60 new retail stores, a new dining terrace and food gallery, and a new Hoyts cinema complex.

Angus McNaughton, CEO and managing director of Vicinity Centres, says Chadstone’s evolution positions it as a premier retail destination.

“This latest development will provide a curated journey of premium offerings, contemporary dining and entertainment, and exceptional architecture, making Chadstone the go-to destination and reinforcing its position as one of the most successful shopping precincts in Australia,” he says.

“This significant project affirms Chadstone’s understanding of what customers need and want in a premium shopping, entertainment and dining destination.”

The centre will also feature a new glass gridshell roof, which is the first of its kind in Australia. Made up of 2,700 pieces of glass collectively weighing more than 500 tonnes, the 42 metre structure will create a light-filled, column-free space.

Each panel of glass was manufactured and coated in Germany, then installed independently with each panel taking about 15 minutes to be guided in place by hand. The design is based on a lattice framework that gets strength from its double curvature.

“This world-class architecture reflects the essence of leading flagship retail and iconic locations from around the globe, and perfectly showcases the premium customer experience on offer at Chadstone,” says McNaughton.

The development is an important milestone in Chadstone’s 56-year history, and upon completion the centre will feature over 100 new retailers, two new dining precincts, Tesla Motors’ first Melbourne retail dealership and Australia’s only Legoland Discovery Centre.
