LAS VEGAS: At the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Haier has released a television that is completely wireless – operating without a power cord.

The television uses a technology called ‘Wificity’ which was originally created at MIT, it sends power through the air to operate electrical appliances.

How does it work? The circuit in the unit converts standard AC power to a higher frequency and using a resonant coil feeds it to a power source. The current inside the source induces an oscillating magnetic field. The device to be powered is tuned electronically to the same frequency as the source in a process called resonant magnetic coupling. The energy of the oscillating magnetic field induces an electrical current in the device.
