After opening its largest store in the southern hemisphere recently, the Swedish retailer is at it again as it plans to build a third store for Sydney.
To be located in Marsden Park, about 50km north-west of Sydney, it will the third store alongside existing Rhodes and its newly opened Tempe store.
Ikea managing director David Hood said the Marsden Park development has been in the planning in the months and would help service current and future customers in the north-west Sydney area.
“The north-west corridor has massive potential for IKEA. As it continues to offer new tranches of land and home releases, we will see an increasing number of families moving in, and this store will make it easy for all of those people to furnish their homes affordably,” he said.
At 36,000 square metres, Marsden Park will be of a similar size to the stores recently opened in Sydney (Tempe) and Melbourne (Springvale). It will be built on a 73,550 square metre site – equivalent to nine football fields – that IKEA purchased as part of the development.
Work on the site will commence in late 2012/early 2013 and it is expected to open in 2014/15.
