Motorola Solutions has introduced the V200, a body camera designed specifically to help protect frontline workers in stores, hospitals, hotels, schools and stadiums.

The V200 body camera is a discreet, lightweight addition to a worker’s uniform. The recording feature can be activated to document a situation, or in more serious scenarios, such as medical incidents or crime, the GoLive Audio feature can engage security personnel or a supervisor, who can access live video and audio and interject via the camera’s speaker.

Motorola Solutions corporate vice president for command centre software and evidence products, Jeremiah Nelson said, “Industries like retail, healthcare, hospitality and education are recognising the value of body cameras to improve safety for their workers and those they serve. In these environments, feeling safe at work is key. The V200 was purpose-built to give frontline workers peace of mind on the job, offering proactive and immediate assistance when and where they need it.”

A recent Motorola Solutions report on retail worker safety found that more than one-quarter of workers have considered quitting their jobs due to safety concerns, about half of workers think body cameras could make them feel safer and the majority believe body camera recordings could aid in investigations.

The launch of the V200 coincides with Motorola Solutions’ acquisition of AI and voice-powered communication and digital workflow software firm, Theatro Labs, based in Texas.

Theatro’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform, purposefully designed for frontline workers, provides a suite of collaboration applications that deliver information in real time to help improve productivity and physical safety.

Using conversational language through a wearable device, users can ask Theatro’s AI voice assistant for guidance to assist customers, check inventory and pricing, and communicate with other team members.

With frontline employee safety threats and theft incidents continuing to rise, Theatro enables employees to discreetly alert management and security teams when they feel unsafe directly through the wearable device, while the AI voice assistant can issue step-by-step safety and incident protocol guidance. Theatro’s software also integrates with video security cameras to identify potential theft or safety threats, and proactively alert employees on the store floor.
