The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has granted full authorisation to the Newsagents Association of NSW & ACT (NANA) to collectively bargain with NSW Lotteries on behalf of their members.
"Lottery products, which include ‘scratchies’ lotteries and lotto, are often an important part of a Newsagent’s business. The collective bargaining arrangements put forward by NANA will help to improve the input of members into the terms on which NSW Lotteries supplies these products to them,” Rod Sims, ACCC chairman, said.
In anticipation of new contractual terms, new terminals, new commission structures, and new lottery products, lottery-only agents and Newsagents who sell lottery products will be represented by NANA if they are members.
"In order to achieve a fair and balanced result for our customers and our Members, we will negotiate our future with NSW Lotteries with a win-win-win frame of mind. NSW Lotteries is one of the key planks of our Members' businesses, and NANA is keen to show its leadership in and deliver substantive results for our Members and their customers," Chiang Lim, NANA CEO, said.
Discussions and negotiations between NANA and NSW Lotteries have begun and are expected to be completed in early 2012.
This ACCC authorisation applies until October 2016 and can be renewed subjected to re-application.
