Australia’s biggest night time shopping event is returning to Sydney with beauty bars, champagne, catwalks and shopping throughout the CBD.

Held on Thursday 1 September and organised by Vogue and American Express, the annual shopping extravaganza is celebrated this year in 20 countries.

More than 190,000 shoppers and 600 retailers will take part with pop-up runways, champagne parties, giveaways, live entertainment, VIPs and celebrity guests.

City of Sydney CEO, Monica Barone, says the event will show Sydney as a global fashion shopping destination boosting local jobs and the economy.

“Sydney is Australia's premier retail destination, and Sydney's retail experience in the city centre is a key attribute of our global city status,” she explains.

“Fashion design, manufacturing and retail businesses strengthen our economy and provide thousands of jobs – that’s why the city is committed to lend its support.

“The city centre will be bursting with life on the night, and we encourage people from all over to join in the fun and entertainment.”

Vogue American Express Fashion's Night Out starts at 5pm in Hyde Park and runs across Pitt Street Mall, Martin Place, David Jones, Queen Victoria Building, Strand Arcade and Castlereagh and Market Streets until 10pm.

The international fashion event first started in New York City in 2009, designed to celebrate shopping and support the fashion industry during the global financial crisis. The event is now celebrated in shopping capitals across the world from Shanghai and Madrid to Milan and Tokyo.
