The expansion of Westfield Chartwell shopping centre in New Zealand is attracting a number of leading retailers.

Country Road, Witchery, Rodd & Gunn, Max are just some tthat have opened at the centre today and will help bring the total number of retailers to 126.

Department store Farmers has also committed to a two-level fashion-focused expansion of some 5,700 square metres to complement the entry of new fashion retailers.

Justin Lynch, Westfield New Zealand director, said the mix of retailers that will be opening at Westfield Chartwell will meet the company’s object of strengthening the shopping centre’s fashion offer.

“The expansion of Westfield Chartwell and the quality of the finished offering has seen leading retailers like Country Road and others choose the centre as the place to open their first store in the Waikato.”

Construction on the centre’s expansion began in earlier this year with the project worth NZ$33 million now in it second stage. The first stage, completed in 2006/07 saw Westfield invest NZ$40 million to expand the Foodtown supermarket and build a new six screen SKYCITY Cinemas complex now trading as Event Cinemas, 450 seat foodcourt, multi-level car park building and 24 new specialty stores.
