Leading Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) provider, Afterpay has partnered with Spotify to transform gift-giving with the launch of the Gift Generator.

The in-app experience harnesses Spotify’s streaming intelligence to craft the ultimate gift list tailored to each user’s preferences. By merging music personalisation with seamless shopping experiences, the Gift Generator offers a unique solution to unwanted gifts.

New Afterpay research shows almost half (48%) of Australians receive at least one unwanted gift over the holiday season. More than one-third (37%) of Australians admit to feeling awkward as they pretend to like an unwanted gift, 18% say it adds clutter to their lives, 16% feel misunderstood by the gift giver and 11% feel disappointed.

The Gift Generator offers curated gift recommendations and a customised playlist based on the user’s ‘Grinch Factor’ or how festive they’re feeling. 

Inspired by Spotify experiences like daylist, the Gift Generator analyses listener behaviour including favourite artists and genres, and asks a series of questions to personalise gift suggestions.

Customers can also explore lifestyle preferences; whether they identify as a Beauty Guru, Trendsetter, Thrill Seeker, or Treasure Hunter. In an Australian-first, the experience is enhanced by haptic technology, allowing users to shake their phones to unlock their gift box and proceed to purchase.
