With recently announcing that it will soon be entering the digital space with an online store, Harvey Norman has launched a daily deal online shopping website.

Still retaining the Harvey Norman trademark logo and colours, harveynormanbigbuys.com.au steers away from the chain’s traditional offering of electronics and furniture goods. Instead, it’s selling products such as cosmetics and toys, all with free delivery.

The new site also gives consumers, who are informed through the registration of the site’s e-newsletter service, a new deal each day using a countdown timer and limited stock.

Last year, Harvey Norman chairman Gerry Harvey was involved in a national retail campaign protesting that the government should change the $1000 GST-threshold to level the playing field between local and international retailers.

He also later said he’d create an overseas-based website to avoid paying GST on shipping, which has already been adopted by Myer through its offshore site that is based in Hong Kong, Myfind.com.
