In anticipation of the holiday season, shopping started earlier than ever on Pinterest this year with searches for ‘Christmas gift ideas’ increasing three-fold in April alone and the percent of Pinners engaging with shopping surfaces on Pinterest growing by over 85% in the past six months, according to internal global data from the social media service.

Pinterest believes there is a difference between shopping and buying: inspiration. With this in mind, Pinterest is launching a new suite of merchant tools to help retailers reach customers including a real-time Catalog feed ingestion, Video for Collections, Automatic Bidding, Conversion Insights and Analysis.

Pinterest is partnering with Australia’s leading lifestyle retailer, Freedom, through the work of their agencies NMPI and Joystick for the launch of Video for Collection, the updated version of Collection ads, which includes multiple products and video as a hero creative in a single ad. This new format allows Pinterest users to discover products and easily click to check out on the retailer’s site.

It is now faster and simpler for retailers to upload their Catalogs and activate Shopping ads, with real-time Catalog feed ingestion, video as the main image in collections, and the ability to bring together Catalogs and collections. A new scheduling tool lets retailers upload all products to Pinterest in their own time.

With Automatic Bidding for catalog sales in ad campaigns, retailers can maximise their budget without over-monitoring their buy. Automatic bidding for shopping means advertisers can dynamically adjust an ad group’s bid to deliver the most results.
