Salesforce has released local insights recapping Prime Big Deals Day, offering retailers a glimpse into Australian shopping habits ahead of the holiday shopping season.
Australian retailers saw an 8% increase in online sales during this Prime Day – making it clear that consumers are watching and waiting for deals as we enter the critical holiday period.
The results, which account for retailers and brands outside of Amazon, look at shopping activity in Australia as well as around the world over the two-day period. The data is taken from Salesforce Shopping Index data which analyses data of 1.5 billion consumers.
While online sales on both days in the US were essentially flat (-1%), Australian retailers’ online sales across both days increased (8%), as did the average selling price, which was up by 27%
The top performing online sales category across both days was active, apparel and footwear (+9%). General apparel, on the other hand, declined by 9%. While order growth decreased by 6% in Australia, overall traffic grew by 2%.
On a global scale, AI played a significant role in online sales during the two-day event – driving up orders from shoppers who clicked on a product recommendation driven by predictive AI.
Highest AI order share categories this year were general handbags (19%) and active apparel (17%), while highest AI order share growth YoY was health & beauty, skincare and makeup (+7%).
