Global financial technology platform, Adyen brings Tap to Pay on iPhone to its New Zealand retail customers. By partnering with NewStore for the launch, businesses including Lorna Jane and R.M. Williams can now accept contactless payments using only an iPhone and the NewStore Associate iOS app.
Adyen and NewStore will enable Tap to Pay on iPhone for their joint customers, which accepts all forms of contactless payments, including contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets, using only an iPhone and a supporting iOS app — no additional hardware or payment terminal needed.
At checkout, merchants simply prompt the customer to hold their contactless payment near the merchant’s iPhone, and the payment will be securely completed using NFC technology.
Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone technology uses the built-in features of iPhone to keep business and customer data private and secure. When a payment is processed, Apple doesn’t store card numbers or transaction information on the device or on Apple servers.
R.M. Williams head of technology, Peter Ratcliffe said, “As a customer-first brand, we’re excited to be one of the first major retailers in New Zealand to roll out Tap to Pay on iPhone. This game-changing technology has already had such a positive impact on customer interactions at our stores across Australia, making the checkout experience even easier for both our store team and our consumers. Instead of customers lining up at the counter to pay, our store team members can react to their needs more organically and checkout customers simultaneously anywhere on the floor.”
Lorna Jane chief technology officer, Peter Clarke said, “Our business in New Zealand thrives on delivering exceptional customer experiences, with a particular focus on eventing. Implementing Tap to Pay on iPhone while using NewStore POS streamlines our operations, enabling our team to process transactions efficiently with just an iPhone, eliminating the need for additional terminals. This also simplifies our workflow during high-traffic periods and off-site events, and ensures our focus remains on delivering top-tier service and products to our valued customers.”
NewStore CEO, Michael DeSimone believes expanding Tap to Pay on iPhone to New Zealand marks a significant step in the company’s mission to simplify and enhance retail experiences for its brands and their customers.
“Through our partnership with Adyen, we’re empowering retailers to operate with unmatched flexibility and efficiency on a global basis, while delivering a truly mobile-first unified commerce experience. This collaboration enables our customers to effortlessly integrate secure, contactless payments that enhance customer satisfaction and support their business growth across new markets,” he said.
Adyen country manager for Australia and New Zealand, Hayley Fisher said, “We’re thrilled to be one of the first to bring Tap to Pay on iPhone to New Zealand businesses. This represents a new benchmark for digital payments, offering New Zealanders a fast, secure, and convenient way to make transactions. We believe this technology will revolutionise the payments landscape and provide immense value to both consumers and businesses.”
