With the retail landscape changing at an unprecedented pace, supply chain solutions experts Manhattan Associates, has outlined four trends set to redefine the retail industry in 2025.
Advancements in technology and store systems will transform how retailers engage with their customers, optimise operations and navigate changing market demands. Ultimately these trends will drive efficiency and improve customer satisfaction and profitability.
Omnichannel innovation
As customers increasingly demand seamless shopping experiences across both online and offline channels, unified commerce solutions will become essential for retailers.
Systems that consolidate inventory with real-time stock visibility, order management systems (OMS), point-of-sale (POS) systems, and customer data onto a single platform will continue to evolve.
“Unified commerce will continue to be essential for retailers. Integrating OMS and POS systems will create a connected ecosystem, enabling businesses to manage inventory, fulfill orders, and process payments with scalability and flexibility,” Manhattan Associates managing director ANZ, Raghav Sibal said. “This unified approach will streamline the checkout process and deliver an elevated customer experience.”
AI-driven personalisation
Generative AI and hyper-personalisation are set to transform the way retailers engage with consumers. Generative AI will drive dynamic and human-like interactions, enabling chatbots to handle complex inquiries, personalise responses, and enhance pre- and–post-purchase experiences. In addition, AI-driven analytics, unified OMS, and POS systems will create tailored shopping experiences with personalised recommendations and dynamic pricing.
“Generative AI is one of the most promising technologies to emerge in recent years, with the potential to transform customer service experiences,” Sibal said.
Innovative warehouse technologies
Warehouse innovations are enabling businesses to meet the requirements of multichannel fulfillment with improved operational efficiencies through technologies such as robotics, automation and cloud-based management systems.
Sustainability in supply chain solutions
Supply chain planning will emerge as a foundation of sustainable retail practices in 2025. Retailers will increasingly leverage advanced technologies and real-time data analytics to minimise waste, optimise inventory, and reduce environmental impact. In addition, precise demand forecasting and inventory alignment will prevent overproduction and reduce excess stock.
“These trends show how technology will continue to drive the evolution of retail in 2025. Retailers who embrace innovation will be best positioned to adapt to change, exceed customer expectations, and stay ahead in a competitive market,” Sibal concluded.
