International on-demand delivery service DoorDash has partnered with multi-carrier shipping platform Shippit to offer retailers an instant delivery solution for consumers.

In 2020, Shippit data found that the number of same day deliveries booked on the Shippit platform grew by 361% compared to the previous year.

DoorDash is breaking new ground in the delivery sector, with Australian general manager Rebecca Burrows saying the partnership is the first of its kind.

“The past few years have seen the e-commerce sector have to rapidly evolve in line with unprecedented demand and shifting customer expectations – consumers simply aren’t willing to wait for deliveries anymore,” Burrows said.

“DoorDash’s existing platform and extensive driver network means we’re well-placed to cater to this demand and support retailers as we continue to move into a world where everything is available on-demand.”

Shippit co-founder and CEO Rob Hango-Zada said the company is proud to be offering this integration to support retailers.

“Given the three-fold increase we saw in same day deliveries during 2020, it’s clear today’s customers aren’t willing to wait, and we expect that trend to continue, with customers increasingly looking for even faster deliveries including on-demand options,” Hango-Zada said.

“That’s why we’re pleased to announce DoorDash is now available on the Shippit platform, giving merchants more choice over who they partner with to better meet changing customer expectations.”

Shippit clients include Accent Group, Big W, Cotton On, Target, and Uniqlo, will now have access to DoorDash Drive’s white-label delivery offering to access the company’s network of drivers and technology while maintaining control of the ordering process.

Online customers within an eligible radius will simply be shown a ‘same-day delivery’ option at check out, with retailers able to set the delivery price.
